Rip Van Winkle

THE MOLD MAKING PROCESS CONTINUES

Stage Ten

Liquid black rubber covers the entire sculpture of Rip. This cures and will be the rubber mold from which the wax positive of Rip will be taken.
The wax positive is the next step in the "lost-wax" bronze casting procedure

Stage Eleven

A steel-reinforced plaster "mother" mold is taken from the rubber-encased clay Rip.
This plaster mold is necessary to hold the shape of whatever material is used in the rubber mold, whether it be plaster,
bonded bronze or - in the next phase of this process - wax.

Stage Twelve

The wax positive of Rip is made.
